Chippa Coach Gives Update on Andile Jali
The reason Chippa United star, Andile Jali, was missing in action recently has been revealed.
Jali was not present during the Chilli Boys’ 1-1 Betway Premiership draw with Sekhukhune United at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo on Wednesday, 25 September.
In an interview with a local soccer outlet on Thursday, 26 September, coach Kwanele Kopo explained that the 34-year-old veteran midfielder is still recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered during Chippa’s season-opening match against Orlando Pirates.
“We didn’t want to lose Andile for [this weekend’s home game in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape],” said Kopo. “We have taken a position that we really want to try and win all our home games, and we must be at full strength to do that for our home games.
“So, we made a cautious decision. He has been struggling a little bit with his hamstring. Andile is not young. If that hamstring snaps, it’s going to take a long time for him to come back. So, he is still not one hundred per cent also in terms of fitness. But we appreciate his contribution.”
Chippa take on TS Galaxy at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium this Sunday, 29 September. It remains to be seen if Jali will participate in this home game or if he will still be in recovery.
